Bereavement

The death of a significant person can be one of the most life changing and challenging experiences in our life.

About Bereavement

The death of a significant person can be one of the most life changing and challenging experiences in our life. The loss can bring up a wide range of emotions such as anger, guilt, numbness and becoming withdrawn, it might be you are finding it difficult to adjust to the changes happening in your life. Grief can change everything from your beliefs, routines, and even your sense of self. It can also exasperate existing mental health conditions like depression.

Bereavement is accepting what has happened, learning to adjust to life without that person and finding a place to keep their memory alive while you try to get along as best you can.

Talking about the loss often allows a person to adjust to their new life with all its changes. Keeping things bottled up or denying the sadness could prolong the pain. Counselling aims to help people find a place for their loss so they can carry on with life and eventually find acceptance. Some people benefit from speaking openly to a counsellor about their feelings to help ease the process and resolve any remaining issues they may have.

Bereavement during the Pandemic

Bereavement during the Pandemic has made the process of grieving even harder. It may be that you have not being able to see your loved one before they died and unable to say goodbye. Even rituals like attending the chapel of rest or even arranging the funeral service would have been difficult and not what you had hoped.

Losing someone to Covid-19 can make the death shocking and unexpected, leaving you little time to prepare and with feelings of anger, helplessness and regret.
